I am in my 40s, and my life has been an incredible journey that I approach with humility and gratitude. Born in Madrid, Spain, in the 1980s, I was raised in a family that valued books, history, museums, and science documentaries. My parents instilled in me the values of curiosity, perseverance, respect, and kindness, values that have profoundly influenced my actions and shaped my personal and professional development. My early exposure to technology began with a Commodore 64 and dial-up internet, sparking a lifelong passion for technology, science, and innovation.
I have traveled, studied, and worked across Europe, Asia, and North America. At 30, I married a wonderful woman, and together we have three boys who inspire me every day.
Professionally, I have worked with outstanding companies across tech, finance, non-profits, government, and briefly in venture capital. These diverse roles have given me a comprehensive understanding of the tech landscape, from business to policy.
Why Am I Doing This Now?
Being deeply involved in the tech and AI sectors, I witness firsthand the transformative power of these technologies. However, I am equally aware of their potential pitfalls, particularly how AI can inadvertently disconnect individuals from meaningful human interactions, mirroring the isolating effects seen with social media.
To prevent AI from becoming a tool that keeps users endlessly engaged yet detached from the real world, we have a unique opportunity to design AI systems that foster genuine connections among individuals and communities. By leveraging AI as an outward-pushing force, we can create engaging tools that help individuals stay connected to themselves and one another, enhancing both personal and professional interactions. Without this intentional approach, I worry that future generations may become increasingly isolated, losing essential human connections in the process. The impact of social media on children today underscores the urgent need to steer AI development toward enhancing human resilience and emotional well-being.
My Research and Mission
I explore how humor and gamification can transform human-centered AI systems. Through my research journey, from conceptual ideas to prototypes and user insights, I aim to develop AI technologies that enhance user engagement and support emotional well-being. My first project, Project Jolly Ride, focuses on humanizing driver assistance systems through humor and gamified engagement.
I welcome collaborations with clients whose interests align with my expertise and vision. Additionally, I am open to speaker opportunities and invite partners and funders to join me in developing AI technologies that enhance human experiences and support emotional well-being, ensuring that technology fosters rather than undermines our humanity.
